Most South Africans acknowledge that we live in a country where a small minority earn extremely well alongside a large majority whose incomes leave much to be desired. We accept, with unease, that we live in a country with the highest income inequality in the world.
Yet, many South Africans don’t understand how exactly their incomes compare to each other nor do we have any idea where exactly we are located in the income distribution.
To bring some clarity to this question, SALDRU has developed an income comparison tool that allows South Africans to compare their incomes and gain a better understanding of how rich or poor they are in comparison to each other.
