CGTN’s Travers Andrews talked to Prof. Murray Leibbrandt about SALDRU’s Income Comparison Tool. He compiled this report.
“Economists at the University of Cape Town have produced a new income comparison tool, which aims to help people better understand persistent levels of inequality in the country. South Africa has many deep rooted and structural inequality problems which continue to plague the majority of its citizens. The new tool produced by the University’s Southern African Labour and Development Research Unit, is meant to help prevent a tendency to keep questions around inequality at a comfortable distance.”
“We’re all part of this society. We all fit somewhere. It’s necessary to know where you fit in the distribution and see how other people live – the people that walk into your houses, the domestic workers and the people that walk into your factories,” Leibbrandt told him.
