Rocco Zizzamia, a SALDRU Research Officer, presented his paper entitled, “Is employment a panacea for poverty in South Africa? A mixed-methods investigation” at the Human Development and Capability Association Conference, in Buenos Aires in early September. The conference theme was “Human development and social inclusion in an urbanising world”.
Rocco’s paper draws on research he conducted while at Oxford, and uses both NIDS panel data as well as findings from qualitative fieldwork that he undertook in Khayelitsha in 2017. Read more about his research here, or find the full paper here.
