For the past four years, J-PAL Africa, based in SALDRU, has worked closely with Pratham, one of India’s largest education NGOs, to support governments and organisations across Africa to adapt, pilot, and scale up the evidence-informed Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. On 15 January, Co-Impact, a global philanthropic collaborative for systems change, announced a commitment of US$80 million and technical support to five initiatives with proven systems-changing strategies in education, health, and economic opportunity.

Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Africa, led jointly by J-PAL and the Indian NGO Pratham, was selected as one of the five initiatives receiving funding under this commitment. The five-year Co-Impact grant will enable J-PAL Africa and Pratham, along with J-PAL’s Europe and Global offices, to form a joint team that will focus on supporting the scale-up of TaRL to reach at least three million students across Africa over the next five years.
