J-PAL Africa recently launched the Africa Research Initiative on Identification, Payments, and Governance, a five-year initiative that aims to foster rigorous experimental, peer-reviewed evidence on how African governments can leverage payments and ID systems to deliver social protection and other public goods and services, increase fiscal space, reduce corruption, improve efficiency and, most importantly, boost welfare of citizens, particularly marginalised groups and women.
