As an introductory analysis to the data on university and college students’ access to remote learning resources across local municipalities, the researchers construct a remote learning indicator based on the municipality that students are from. HSRC, SALDRU and UNICEF join forces to understand the impact of COVID-19 on young people in South Africa 27th May 202030th Nov 2021Kim Ingle The current COVID-19 health crisis and lockdown will have large, additional negative effects on the social and economic situation of youth. To gain a better understanding of what those effects will be, SALDRU has partnered with UNICEF to design and distribute a survey via the UNICEF U-report platform. ACEIR Research Day spotlights inequality in Ghana, Kenya and South Africa 27th May 202028th Oct 2021Kim Ingle Charmaine Smith, ACEIR communication manager. Basic Package of Support for Youth receives additional funding through the Capacity Building Programme for Employment Promotion 2nd May 202030th Jun 2021Kim Ingle Throughout 2019, the BPS team worked to complete the design and implementation plan of a comprehensive support package for young people in South Africa who are NEET. Now, in 2020, with renewed support from the Capacity Building Programme for Employment Promotion, located in GTAC, the team enters the preparatory stage to roll out pilot sites in several parts of the country at the beginning of 2021. SALDRU evaluates promising program to improve reading for meaning 2nd May 202028th Sep 2022Kim Ingle Cally Ardington Prof. Cally Ardington has led a SALDRU team to evaluate some of the work done by the Funda Wande NGO on educational interventions. Funda Wande was invited by the Eastern Cape Department of Education to pilot their in-service coaching model in primary schools in the province. The SALDRU researchers were charged with conducting an impact evaluation of the programme. SALDRU News
