Analysis of Social Grants


SALDRU has done a range of work in this area over the last few years, including:

  • Training and updates for the Department of Social Development for their model of the cost of the social grant system
  • A tax-transfer microsimulation model for the National Treasury
  • The analysis of a survey of grant beneficiaries for the Department of Social Development
  • Work on the mitigating effect of social transfers for a project entitled “Demographic and Poverty
  • Dynamics in an African population with High AIDS Mortality and Implications for Social Policy” with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University of KwaZulu-Natal
