Emma is a postdoctoral researcher at SALDRU. In 2023, she graduated from the University of Cape Town with her PhD in Economics, which investigated topics related to inequalities in post-school education in South Africa, especially regarding student funding, access, and success. Emma continues to build on this body of work, contributing to studies falling under the Siyaphambili Project – a hub for post-schooling information and research.
Her current research also includes work on the education, labour market, and intergenerational socioeconomic consequences associated with the expansion of education funding in Ghana, as well as topics related to wealth, privilege and structural inequalities in both South Africa and Ghana, under the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research (ACEIR).
Emma also holds an MSc in Economics and Public Policy (cum laude) from the University of York and an MA in African Languages (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town.
